The Republic of Cape Verde is an island of 10 volcanic islands in the Central Atlantic Ocean. The islands cover an area of more than 4,000 square kilometers and have a population of about 550,000 at a distance of 570 km from the West African region.
Cape Verde was discovered and colonized by Portuguese explorers in the 15th century and inhabited by Europeans. In the 16th century, it was considered a slave trade by merchants, ships, and pirates. The archipelago finally gained independence peacefully in 1975.
The climate of Cape Verde is generally relatively temperate, warm, with dry summers, and very little or very irregular rainfall. Cape Verde is also a steep, rugged, mountainous, and volcanic country.
