VISA INFORMATION

Visitor Visa:

Schengen visa is a visa that gives a foreigner the right to stay in Latvia and in other Schengen member states. Visas are not required by visitors from the following countries for visit up to 90 days. Albania, Andorra, Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macao, Macedonia, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, St Kitts and Nevis, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Vatican City and Venezuela. Airport transit visa (type A):

an airport transit visa allowing to stay in an international transit zone is required for citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka or foreigners holding travel documents issued by the aforementioned countries. This visa may be issued to stay in an international transit zone at the airport of a Schengen member state.  For further information please contact us.

Short term stay (Type C):

This visa is issued for a short-term visit in, or transit through Schengen member states. It is a short-stay visa which depending upon the purpose of the visit may be issued for one, two or multiple entries. A foreigner holding a C visa may stay in Schengen member states no more than 90 days in any 180-day period. For further information please contact us.

Long term stay (Type D):

Foreigner who needs to stay in Latvia more than 90 days in a half-year period depending on the circumstances should apply for a long-stay visa (or a residence permit). Under Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council that came into effect on 5 April 2010, a third-country national holding a valid long-stay visa issued by a Schengen state may travel and stay in the territory of other Schengen states no more than 90 days in any 180-day period. For further information please contact us.

Student Visa:

The higher education institutions in Latvia are members of international cooperation within many different fields of study. EU citizens have the right to reside in Latvia and do not need to apply for a residence permit. You must be registered as a full time student at a university, vocational school, or other studies meeting university admission requirements.

Work Visa:

If foreigner’s employment is related with short term or occasional residence in the Republic of Latvia, which does not exceed 90 days within half a year, the foreigner is obliged to receive a visa or temporary residence permit and work permit. If foreigner’s employment is related with regular residence in the Republic of Latvia, which exceeds 90 days within half a year, the foreigner is obliged to receive temporary residence permit and work permit.

Working holiday visa:

A working holiday visa is obtainable by all Canadian and New Zealand nationals who want to reside and take up employment in Latvia for a maximum period of 12 consecutive months. This permit is only available to Canada and New Zealand nationals as Latvia has a reciprocal working holiday agreement with them. For further information please contact us.

Investor Visa:

The country of Latvia offers tremendous opportunities for foreign investors seeking to obtain a citizenship. Investors can gain a five year residency permit by investing €250,000 in property. The new limit introduced in 2014 applies to the first 800 applicants. After that the investment limit rises to €500,000.  In addition there is a government processing fee of €25,000.
